7 Eco-Friendly Bedding Sets to Invest In
Rosa Morell
As consumers, we’re more aware than ever of the environmental impact of the clothes we wear, the food we eat and the ingredients we put onto our skin. But when it comes to the materials we sleep in, well, that’s a whole other story. In the bedding biz, countless brands are churning out synthetic sets at tempting prices that compromise the environment, our bank balance and even our health in the long run.
If it’s your first time shopping for bedding with sustainability in mind, it can be tricky to know what to look out for. A good place to start is by purchasing from brands that use natural materials, including cotton, linen and bamboo. Not only are these materials less polluting than their petroleum-based counterparts (i.e. polyester and nylon), but they’re also renewable resources, making them far more sustainable. For further peace of mind, keep an eye out for certifications like OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), as they’ll give you the green light that the brand has met strict environmental standards when producing its products.
Ready to make the switch to eco-friendly bedding? I’ve done the legwork and found seven brands leading the charge in creating a fairer and less environmentally harmful industry (all while scoring top marks for style and comfort).
1. Cottsbury White Organic Cotton Sateen Set
While I’m partial to a pretty print and a spot of seersucker, you can’t deny the elegance of a pure white bedding set. However, not all white bedding sets are created equal – so if you’re looking for a set that doesn’t heavily crinkle or cling, Cottsbury’s White Organic Cotton Sateen Set is a winner in my books. Consciously crafted with GOTS certified organic cotton, adorned with coconut shell buttons and presented in a cotton bag made from their surplus materials, this is the perfect starter set for anyone making their foray into the world of sustainable bedding.
2. Panda London 100% Bamboo Bedding Set
For those who don’t know, bamboo is viewed as a highly sustainable plant thanks to its fast-growing nature and ability to thrive without pesticides. For this reason, Panda’s naturally dyed, 100% Bamboo Bedding Sets have been on my radar for quite some time now. And if these sets weren’t already impressive enough, they also have temperature-regulating, antibacterial and hypoallergenic qualities for a superb sleep experience.
3. Rise and Fall Crisp & Cool Duvet Set Bundle
If you’re a serial sleep overheater (I feel your pain), the Crisp & Cool Duvet Set Bundle from B Corp brand Rise and Fall will be your saviour in the summer months. Made using GOTS certified organic cotton and boasting an impressive 400 thread count, these sought-after sets will help you drift into a peaceful (and less sweaty!) slumber when the temperatures soar.
4. Piglet in Bed Linen Bedding Bundle
Whether you gravitate towards gingham, have a thing for florals or prefer a neutral colour palette, there’s something for everyone at Piglet in Bed. Their Linen Bedding Bundles (made from 100% European flax, without the use of harmful chemicals) will keep you cosy in the winter and cool in the summer for year-round comfort. And while their bedding comes in at a higher price point, they’re crafted with longevity in mind, so you’ll get your money’s worth in the end!
5. White and Green The Aura Collection Bed Set
Combining expert craftsmanship with unparalleled quality, The Aura Collection Bed Set from White & Green will transform your room into the ultimate sleep sanctuary. Using their signature 300 thread count sateen organic cotton, these sets are silky smooth, super soft, and, of course, sustainable. To complement their environmental credentials, White and Green are also big on workers’ rights and ensure that all of their employees in India receive pensions, medical insurance, rent allowances, and more.
6. Dip and Doze 100% Organic Cotton Bedding Set
The old adage ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ rings true for many things, with bedding being one of them. Utilising six generations of textile expertise, Dip and Doze create consciously made bed linens that are designed to improve with age – including their 100% Organic Cotton Bedding Sets. And you can sleep that bit sweeter knowing that they’ve sourced their materials from a Fairtrade-certified organisation.
7. Bedfolk Linen Bedding Bundle
Priding themselves on buttery soft bedding and cloud-like duvets and pillows, it’s safe to say that Bedfolk have earned their stripes in the bedding arena. All of their products are meticulously crafted by artisans across the globe using 100% natural materials. Their Linen Bedding Bundle is particularly special as it feels luxurious but also ‘lived-in’ – translation: the kind of bedding that’ll make you want to cancel all plans and curl up for the foreseeable.
