Carrie Bradshaw’s Most Iconic SATC Outfits, Made Sustainable

Alice Hartwell

The world is falling back in love with Sex and The City, aka the late 90s and early 00s fashion blueprint. Perhaps a natural precursor to the Y2K style trends that are sticking around with some fervor, the iconic Carrie Bradshaw is now being observed through the lens of a new generation. While we might now reject the over-romanticisation of her ongoing love interest Mr Big, (because let’s face it, that relationship was never cute) we can choose to embrace Carrie’s eclectic, label-loving style more consciously than before. Here’s a few of her most memorable style moments, made sustainable.

1. The opening sequence outfit

Our first introduction to one of fashion’s most notable TV protagonists, and she was determined to never be forgotten with this one. Carrie’s famous tutu was in fact the product of upcycling (before it was cool), sourced from a showroom bin by costume designer Patricia Field.

2. The Shirt Dress

And just like that, the standard for the perfect post-night-out look was set. Her impromptu shirt dress feels like the moment that truly defined Carrie’s signature style: effortless, imperfect and bravely chic.

3. The Mini Dress

SJP’s amazing legs were Carrie’s ultimate accessory on many occasions, and never more so than when styling her classic minis. Minimalist, timeless and simple but still always with that little touch of Bradshaw flair.

4. The brunch/shopping outfit

The outfit that had everything going on. For me? No. For Carrie? Yes. No one could pull it off quite like her, which is always the magic of seeing her looks come to life on-screen.

5. The Revenge Dress

Showing up to the wedding of a guy you used to date and still kind of have a thing with is certainly a choice. Stylistically only, this moment, often dubbed as Carrie’s “revenge dress”, was very much the correct choice.
