Weaving Poetry and Sustainability into Everyday Life With Areej Noelle

Born and raised in West London, Areej Noelle is a multi-talented artist with roots in Morocco and Sudan. As a poet, soul-jazz singer, and model, she channels her rich cultural heritage into deeply expressive works. Known for her distinctive urban-infused jazz style, Areej draws on classical Arabic melodies and the emotional depth of soul music. Her artistic journey is a testament to versatility and introspection, with poetry at its heart.

When asked about her favourite sustainable fashion pieces, Areej’s thoughtful approach to style shines through. “I lean towards items that are both practical and sustainable, with a nod to timeless style over fleeting trends,” she says. Her wardrobe is a carefully curated collection of thrifted and bespoke pieces, reflecting her values of longevity and eco-consciousness. A particular favourite is her classic denim jacket. “Denim is so durable and only gets better with age,” she notes. “It transitions through seasons and still looks good after years of wear. It perfectly reflects my belief in quality over quantity.”

This philosophy extends beyond fashion, permeating her creative and personal life. Sustainability, she explains, is not just a buzzword but a principle that informs her decisions as a musician and model. “As much as I appreciate vinyl and physical releases, I try to focus on digital formats for sharing music. It reduces waste and the environmental impact of producing and shipping physical products.” Similarly, her approach to fashion prioritises brands committed to a slow fashion mindset, championing timeless designs over fast trends.

For Areej, poetry is a deeply personal outlet. “Life inspires my poetry. I often write from my heart and the things I’ve been through,” she says. “If I ever get writer’s block, I remind myself to go live a little and gain new experiences.” Her art is profoundly tied to her emotions, with pain often serving as her muse. “My pen is fuelled by pain. I channel all my emotions into my art, which has always been a safe haven for me.”

Though Areej doesn’t have a fixed space for writing, she often finds solace in nature and creative spaces. “I write whenever I’m ready to pour,” she explains. Walks in the park and moments surrounded by art and culture provide her with grounding and inspiration. “Being in and around creative spaces—exhibitions, museums, or installations—resonates with me deeply. Seeing how others express themselves broadens my creative palette.”

Areej’s creative process is as dynamic as her surroundings. “A lot of the time, it takes just one moment to inspire a new portal of thought,” she says. Whether jotting down verses in a notebook or typing ideas on her phone, she embraces spontaneity and flow.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Areej’s daily life reflects her commitment to sustainable living. From prioritising eco-conscious brands to balancing her artistic and environmental responsibilities, she strives to leave a positive impact. Her ability to weave these principles into her multifaceted career is a reflection of her holistic approach to creativity and life.

As she continues to explore new avenues in music, poetry, and fashion, Areej Noelle is poised to inspire others with her artistry and values. Whether through her evocative verses or her commitment to sustainability, she is a true testament to living with intention and purpose.

“Art allows me to express my multiple truths,” she says, encapsulating the essence of her work. “For that, I am indebted to it.”
