These Affordable Eco-Brands Want To Save The Planet (And Your Bank Account)
Alice Hartwell
One of the biggest lures of fast retail is that it’s cheap and easily accessed. This becomes more tempting, and in many cases unavoidable, in difficult economic times. While we want to be sustainable and care for our planet, sometimes spending £70 on a plain white T-shirt just isn’t realistic. In fairness, many eco-brands price higher because they use first-rate, sustainable fabrics and ethical practices, which inevitably hikes up costs. The ability to shop consciously shouldn’t be for a select few. Here’s a selection of brands dedicated to selling quality, environmentally-friendly products without burning a hole in your pocket.
Omnes
Priced: £11 – £85
Beloved in the sustainable community for their stylish, modern designs at an affordable price point is Omnes. They are committed to re-curating a fashion culture that shows clothing can be budget AND planet-friendly. Omnes are great for all your minimalist basics as well as pretty occasion dresses that might set you back hundreds elsewhere.
Weleda
Priced: £5 – £41
Let’s face it, skincare can get pretty spenny. If you want to watch your beauty budget, Weleda is an eco-brand that matches affordability with good old-fashioned quality. Achieving cult fame with its Skin Food moisturising cream, this natural beauty and wellness business also has a selection of body, and healthcare that won’t wear out your credit card.
Lucy & Yak
Priced: £7 – £82
A brand that truly inspires joy, Lucy & Yak craft conscious, fun-filled designs that you don’t have to splurge on. You can even save money by bringing back your old “Yaks” and getting a discount on new purchases. Again, they have a really nice selection of minimalist basics, broken up with splashes of bold, unique colours and patterns.
SYLKI
Priced: £8 – £50
Silk hair and sleep accessories are all the rage right now, but popular brands like Slip aren’t particularly budget-conscious. Introducing SYLKI: the handmade, eco-friendly Grade 6A silkwear brand. Make them your go-to for big, fluffy scrunchies (without the big price tag).
Brûler Candles
Priced: £10 – £30
Considering you’re essentially burning money, I’m always hard-pushed to splash out on candles. Brûler is the perfect solution for scent lovers with sustainability and spending in mind. Completely vegan and made from soy wax, these candles have a fragrance payoff that rivals even the big-name brands.
Nu-In
Priced: £16 – £150
When seeking a high-fashion feel on a budget, Nu-In has a range that delivers. Championing sustainability at every turn, this brand has a mix of streetwear and contemporary formalwear that be bought brand new or second-hand in a circular scheme on their website.
Fanclub
Priced: £20 – £48
Want to up your interior design game while remaining cost-conscious? Quality artwork is infamously expensive, but with Fanclub, you can pick up unique prints at a moderate price. Created using paper that has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance Program for FSC® Standards, this brand has prints for music lovers, horoscope huns and everyone in between.
