Investment Winter Coats Going Straight On My Wishlist
Alice Hartwell
The return of autumn for me signals one thing – it’s socially acceptable to wear big coats again (which frankly, I would do all year if I could). There is nothing that epitomises enduring style to me quite like a quality winter coat. It’s a piece I can always depend on to feel confident, and one I think is worth investing in more than any other. There’s no escaping the reality that coats are expensive. They’re a big investment that you want to make wisely to ensure you’ll get wear out of them for many years to come. I’ve curated some of my favourite sustainable winter coats to help you invest well for the upcoming season and beyond.

My personal *star of the show*; it just represents everything I love about a good winter coat. This oversized yet refined pick from Aligne. Made from recycled materials, this piece is crafted in line with the brand’s famously sustainable values and ethics.
These unseasonably warm days of A/W call for a trench coat. This one from By Malene Birger has the essence of a classic Burberry trench, partially made using linen for a lightweight, breathable feel.
Looking to save money and be even more sustainable to boot? Shop preloved. The quality of many vintage coats means they stand the test of time, and you can find some pieces in great shape if you look around. This pre-owned pick from The Coedit is a prime example.
Eco-conscious faux-fur brand N’Onat have answered your fluffy, teddy bear dreams this winter. The Amy coat is made using 100% recycled polyester and is completely fur-free and vegan.
You can always rely on Toteme to come through with effortlessly stylish outerwear. This double-layered coat is part of Net-A-Porter’s NET SUSTAIN edit, made using considered materials.
It’s important not to forget about practicality when investing in a new winter coat. Luckily, this puffer from Holzweiler covers that base while also looking polished and timeless. Crafted from recycled shell, the down and feathers used in this coat have been sourced from from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm.
If longline coats aren’t your thing, fall in love with this JOSEPH cropped jacket instead. Certified to keep you cosy (and stylish) all winter long, Gerard is made from conscious wool and indulgent cashmere that is perfect for layering.
