Fashion Month Trends Worth Investing In
Esme Price
It’s fashion month, and we’re in love. From the unbeatable street styling at Copenhagen Fashion Week, to the fashion-forward runways in New York, we’ve been glued to our phones consuming fashion content and furiously taking notes on the new and emerging trends we’re seeing.
Fashion week is where I go to get all my inspiration for styling ahead of the game. By investing in staples that will last me through all the fashion weeks to come, I am able to style them in ways that will fit any upcoming trend, thus spending and consuming less. By taking inspiration from fashion week, we are able to also make conscious decisions on where we can shop instead of the bigger, more expensive brands. Smaller, more ethical brands can produce the same products at a cost effective price, that are healthier for the environment.
It’s easy to be influenced by the new hot trend du jour – for example, silver and stripes are all over the catwalks this season. However, by being more conscious about your purchases and only buying key pieces, you can turn ephemeral trends into wardrobe essentials that will last you a lifetime. We think everything on this list will be worth the investment – what do you think?
Elevated Joggers
For the days when all you want to do is wear joggers, but fashion law forbids it… here are some options that can be just as relaxed but looking your best, chic self. Some examples of these have been seen from the classic Saint Laurent with their elevated cargos in their SS24 collection. But you can’t go wrong with a horseshoe leg, like in Alaïa SS24 collection. These let you feel sculpted but still keeping the relaxed, sophisticated vibe going.
Not-So Ludicrously Capacious Bags
In fashion weeks, we see both sides of the extreme, when it comes to bags. They are either way too small or obnoxiously big. Here I have pulled together a few bags that are more conscious to our everyday lives, a staple that will live out these absurd sizes. Bucket bags were seen a lot at the Victoria Beckham show, and obviously carry on the obsession we all had with the Bottega Veneta hobo bags. Stella McCartney’s Frayme bag has a similar intricate design but a more classic style that will outlast seasonal trends, as well as the Vela Braided Bag from Etro.
White Dresses
A white dress is an essential in any wardrobe and can be styled all year long. Whether layered with a jumper for winter, or on top of a bikini for summer, the possibilities are endless. We have selected 2 really lovely ones to give you the option of something laid back and versatile or something a little more show-stopping.
Walkable Flats
Heels are out this season! But we want to ask: why put your feet through all that pain when you can make as much of a statement with extravagant flats? With these two pairs you can dress them up or down with any outfit, and wear them even when heels are back. With both being produced by sustainable brands they will definitely see many more steps than most trend-led shoes.
Sheer Everything
Everyone loves a sheer moment. Hunter Schafer wowed us in her Prada gown at the Golden Globes earlier this year, and seems to have ushered in a new moment for sheer everything. Sheer garms can be layered up or styled alone if you’re bold enough, making them perfect all year round. They are a great way to tune into the modern romantic aesthetic or a more of a twist on a more sophisticated look.
Baby Blue
We’ve been seeing blue everywhere, so here’s a few ways to jump into the blue trend without regretting it later on. Why not try combining it with a couple of staple pieces already in your wardrobe? Personally, I love baby blue, as the hue pairs well with so many other colours. Being ahead of the game for this trending colour of the year, is guaranteed. And if you aren’t the most confident with colour, you can always incorporate it into your look using accessories or tights!
